Lactose intolerance is the inability to digest the milk sugar lactose, causing gastrointestinal symptoms of flatulence,bloating, cramps, and diarrhea in some individuals.

This Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine factsheet provides a list of non-dairy sources of calcium which are recommended for all – whether lactose intolerant or not – as healthier.
